Chapter 60

Beloit, Janesville and the WI/IL Stateline Area

EAA YOUNG EAGLES PROGRAM

THE EAA YOUNG EAGLES PROGRAM'S GOAL IS TO ENCOURAGE OUR NATION'S YOUTH TO DEVELOP AN INTEREST IN AVIATION BY PROVIDING NO-COST AIRCRAFT RIDES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGES 8 TO 17.

Our Young Eagles Philosophy

While many EAA Chapters seem to favor quantity over quality, or at least try to have quality flight experiences for young people during large-scale Young Eagles "rallies", Chapter 60 takes a different approach.  We think a Young Eagle ride should be a one on one experience -- one Young Eagles authorized pilot with one youngster interested in aviation.  Our goal is not to add numbers to the EAA's Young Eagles "number of rides given" tally sheet.  Our goal is to give a young enthusiast a quality experience that he or she will never forget -- one that inspires that youngster to seek out more aviation experiences and perhaps even to work toward a career in some aviation related field, or simply work toward his or her private pilot certificate and beyond.

Toward that end, if you have a child or know of one between the ages of 8 and 17, please contact our Young Eagles Pilot Ed Titcomb at 815-623-9704 or e-mail him by clicking HERE.   He will coordinate a date and time that he can meet with you and your child for a meaningful, one-on-one flight experience. Your time together will include a discussion about related topics such as checking the weather prior to your flight, explaining what is involved in the aircraft pre-flight inspection, basic control of the airplane itself (a two-seat RV-8) and other subjects.  This ground briefing will be followed by a local flight from the Beloit Airport that will last approximately 20 - 30 minutes.

Ed is a highly experienced pilot with over 4,000 hours logged in the air.  He spent 20 years flying Cessna 206 aircraft (and other types) in the jungles of Brazil as a pilot for Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).  He holds Private, Commercial, and Instrument ratings as well as an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic's license.  He will give your child the time and attention he or she deserves for that fantastic "first flight experience!"  To see photos and more information about previous Young Eagles who have flown with our Young Eagles pilots in the past, check them out HERE.  The rest is up to you and your Young Eagle!  Have a great experience!
