The Experimental Aircraft Association began the Young
Eagles program in 1992 to introduce young people to the
wonderful world of aviation by offering free airplane rides.
The National Young Eagles Chairmen are Captain "Sully"
Sullenberger and First Officer Jeff Skiles... the US Airways
Airbus 320 crew that successfully ditched their aircraft in
the Hudson River in New York after both engines failed due
to bird strikes!
To date, over 1.5 million Young Eagles rides have been
given by approximately 42,000 Young Eagles pilots!
Chapter 60 has not had an active Young Eagles program
for many years, but one of our goals for 2010 and beyond is
to develop and support a Young Eagles program using
Chapter Members who have access to aircraft and who
are willing to give rides to area young people between the
ages of 8 and 17.
